What We Do
The “My Story” Project will provide youths a safe space for reflection, exchange of ideas, understanding and growth while creating art using the camera as a tool to guide them toward education and personal development. The medium of photography will help them find their own voice in order to build a sense of worth and significance within their communities.
The “My Story" photo project provides digital cameras and training in basic photo techniques to youths in our community. The training is about 'seeing' as a photographer. Participants will learn photography, discuss each other's pictures, use their cameras to document their individual lives and personal surroundings. They will also be documenting other lives, capturing stories on assignment, shooting wonderful nature or taking masterful self portraits…This project wants to “see” their story.
The “My Story” Mission Statement is to provide community-based photographic arts programming for less fortunate youths in our city. Together we use the visual strength of the camera to give them a platform to be heard and offer self empowerment through creative expression. We also provide mentorship with imaginative outlets in an effort to guide them to make positive choices in their lives.
